The Shield is earned by beating the holder and stays with the holder on a draw. A reign counts the match it was won in plus every successful defence; the defeat that ends it belongs to the next holder.
* Great Britain’s reign passed to England on 21 October 1990 without a match between them. Complete to 16 October 2026.
